School Crest
The school crest was designed in the
late 1970's by Douglas O. Schilling, a teacher at BCHS. The cardinal in the
middle represents our cardinal mascot. The lamp of knowledge signifies academic
pursuits. The lyre denotes music and the arts, which are a
integral part of our curriculum. The scales of justice symbolize the fairness
with which each student is treated. The quill (feather) and sword signify that
the pen is, indeed, mightier than the sword. This thought is indicative of high
moral character, which the school endeavors to instill in each student.
School Colors, Mascot, and Fight Song:
Belle Chasse High School's colors
are red, white, and black. Our school's mascot is the fighting cardinal. The
Belle Chasse High School fight song is the same tune as the Notre Dame Fight song.

History
Belle Chasse High School, "Home
of the Fighting Cardinals," was founded in 1928. The original school was a
single brick building. As the community began to grow, a wooden building was
placed adjacent to the school. In 1958, the present facility was opened and the
old brick building remodeled. The old building was given the name the
"Gray Building" because of the color it was painted. In 1998 a 2.5 million dollar refurbishment of the
school was completed. Modern science labs and classrooms, a new music building,
a renovated auditorium and gym are some of the improvements. Belle Chasse High
School continues to rank as one of the best schools in the New Orleans
metropolitan area. Student uniforms became a requirement in the 1998-99 school year.
