Young Life
Any high school student can join Young Life. They meet every Monday night at 7:01 P.M. Club members take turns hosting meetings at their houses. This club will lead meetings Summer Camp, and take part in helping at the Zurich Classic.
Beta
Beta is an academic and community service club open to students in grades 9-12 with a 3.5 GPA. Club meetings are held once per month during activity periods in the Auditorium. Beta club will sponsor many community service projects and events throughout the school year, and they participate in the Beta convention in Baton Rouge in January. Beta Induction will be held in September 30th at 6 P.M. in the Auditorium.
4-H
The 4-H Club meets once a month in Room 22. Most activities are done outside of school such as the cooking contests.
Animal/Environmental
The Animal and Environmental Club meets twice a month during lunch n Room 17. This club will have discussions, watch videos, and read literature dealing with animal welfare and environmental issues. You will also take part in service hours at P.A.W.S. *$7.00 dues for the entire year.
Black History Club
The Black History Club is open to all grade levels. They meet once per week on Thursdays in the gym. The Black History club presents an annual Black History Program to the school as well as to put on concerts for the high school for the enjoyment of the students. This club has also been involved in field trips to Washington D.C., and Memphis, TN.
Chess
The chess club is open to all grades, but you must be passing all classes. You must have the desire to learn and play chess. This club meets weekly during activity periods in Room 5. You will learn about chess master and grand master, the history of the game, and how to play. Potential for tournaments with other schools. Starting fall 2009.
French
In order to be in the French Club you must be enrolled in French class. This club meets twice a month after school for 30 minutes. They will discuss cultural event in the French speaking world, as well as make plans to visit any historical or cultural events in town. They will also meet for lunch on some weekends for French Cuisine.
Guitar
Guitar Club is open to all grades but you must be passing all your classes. You also must have your own guitar or bass guitar. This club will meet weekly to learn basics of the instrumental reading TAB and charts, sharing riffs, and form ensembles. This Club will start in Fall 2009
Interact
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance. Each year, Interact clubs complete two community service projects which furthers international understanding and goodwill. All grade levels are eligible, and the meetings are bi-monthly during activity periods in Mrs. DiMarco’s room.
Library
There are no requirements to join this club, just a love for books and reading. The club plans to meet twice a month during lunch on the first and third Tuesday of the month. The goal of this club is to promote reading. They try to do at least one service project, a fundraiser, and a visit to the Riverbend nursing Home. They will also be promoting “Teen Read Week” which is October 18-24.
Multi-Cultural
This club will be open to all students of different races and religions. You must have a 1.5 GPA to join. This club will meet once every two weeks. They will lead cultural activities such as the Asian New Year, Cinco De Mayo, Dr. Martin Luther King, etc.
Oratorical
All grades are allowed to participate in this club. You must have a desire to speak in public, and to write a speech based upon the U.S. Constitution. This club meets twice a week in Room 4. This club is on-going throughout the school year.
Student Council
Any student with at least a 2.5 GPA can join. This club meets twice a month after school and sometimes during lunch. This club will take part in leading Homecoming, The Homecoming dance, Spirit Week, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Blood Drive, Secret Valentine, Christmas Decorating, Campus Clean Up, and many more to come.
*$10.00 dues for entire year.
YA Book Club
Any grade level is allowed to participate. This club will meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month during lunch time in the library. In a group circle, students will talk about novels with their peers, and get to “run” the show for recommendations, wish books, award winners, and graphic novels.
